Tech Careers Look Safe, And Starting To Grow
Posted by John Vinson
Tech careers have had quite an interesting history in the past couple of decades. Truly taking form during the early-mid 90′s, there hadn’t been quite a career revolution like that in years. Like all great things, it eventually came to an end with the dot.com bubble burst. According to experts, we’re looking at another resurgence in the high tech community.
The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics is stating high tech jobs are in excellent shape right now, with high demand for administrators, engineers, programmers, and analysts. Communication analysts and software engineers are slated to be two of the fastest growing careers in the next ten years.
CompTIA is a trade association who helps to connect tech experts to various jobs in the industry. Their CEO, Todd Thibodeaux is cautiously optimistic about the apparent high demand of tech jobs. While their is a high demand, Thibodeaux also has been noticing an oversupply in skilled workers. Thus, creating a diluted field of potential employees.
Another tech career website, Dice.com has been seeing an upswing in demand for careers in the tech industry. As of now, there are 65,000 jobs listed on the site and they require applicants to be certified in a wide variety of skills.
The cause of this new demand for jobs can be associated with a couple of factors. First, the healthcare industry is making a big push for getting all of their records onto electronic servers. The effort is being seen on a wide scale, requiring many hospitals and other facilities to hire IT experts.
Along with the health industry, businesses in general are becoming better connected and are finally making it to the internet. Of course, doing so requires experts to help with the transition, specifically with security. Many businesses were averting funds elsewhere besides technology during the recession, which caused the industry to slow a bit. However, an increase in tech investment is starting to show again.
While we won’t be seeing anything along the lines of the initial dot.com bubble, it’s great to see the tech industry in higher demand. The field will only continue to grow, as more and more businesses adopt new systems and need someone who can create and maintain these systems.
